Our Nuts &\; Bolts series begins with one of the most important decisions in a criminal case\: will the defendant be released or detained\, and if released\, under what conditions?
Led by the Honorable Magistrate Judge Charles R. Pyle\, this session will review the law\, burdens\, and procedure for both prosecution and defense advocacy of detention. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bob Miskell will present the substantive law. Defense attorney Leslie Bowman and Assistant U.S. Attorney Reese Bostwick will argue in a mock detention hearing.
All three attorneys will join Judge Pyle and Jerry Brown from Pretrial Services for a panel discussion following the mock hearing.
